The Best Vitamin: Does It Exist?

Can you imagine a bottle with inferior ingredients and ground-up rocks thrown in, to be marketed as the “all-in-one with all you need”? Since there are thousands of multivitamin supplements claiming to be the best vitamin, how on earth are we supposed to know if we are doing our body a favor? Dietary supplements are not regulated. Know what you’re getting.

Are you taking a natural or synthetic vitamin?

If it comes from the grocery, or drug store, chances are you have a synthetic product. You really do get what you pay for, and it’s usually not very healthy. Think “smart nutrition“. Most of the synthetic ingredients come from overseas. There’s no quality assurance there. Need we say more?

Despite what some will tell you, synthetic nutrients created in a lab cannot measure up to the thousands of organic compounds found in our food that have nutritional significance. Our body does actually know the difference.

Comparing ingredients in vitamin supplements

Be aware that the way the potency of supplements may be represented can be very misleading. The synergy of the ingredients and how well they work together is something that is addressed by the manufacturer and passed on to you. Research the company that manufactures your vitamin products, so you have trust in what they pass along to you.

Then you need to be concerned about the potency of the supplements. Have they been tested to contain the amount and potency that is listed? The best vitamin for you will be glad to brag about testing, manufacturing methods, and integrity. Lack of synthetic ingredients, fillers, and binders, will be listed on the product. You will want to avoid preservatives, starches, and sugars.

You will run across vitamin products containing antioxidants, and phytonutrients. They will be listed on the label. You may benefit from proprietary blends of herbal vitamins that include digestive enzymes, herbs, and whole-food blends of vitamins, that are specifically blended for males or females at certain life stages.

Proper absorption in the best multivitamin

A type of capsule that dissolves completely is the preferred vegetable capsule or gelatin capsule. This way, you can be sure to avoid the type of supplement known as the “bedpan bullet” that all hospital personnel speaks of.

Some supplements may have a coating, called an enteric coating, which allows the supplement to make it through the stomach intact and be absorbed in the small intestine, where proper absorption of nutrients occurs. Most of them that are simply sprayed on chemicals or plastics… so beware.

Minerals, Amino acids, should be chelated, which means they are attached to a protein and enhances their bioavailability by as much as 400%. Minerals, which may be just ground-up rocks, are difficult for your body to absorb. How absorbable, or bioavailable the nutrients are, is an important consideration. Do some quick research on which natural vitamin sources are best.

What should the best vitamin contain?

One thing to note is that one pill cannot contain it all. Calcium is a very important nutrient, and you will have to take a calcium supplement on its own because of its size. The same goes for fatty acids. You will need to take certain supplements on the side if you expect them to be effective.

For fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K, you should avoid taking over 100% of the RDA in most cases, because of the possibility that these vitamins can be stored in the body more easily than water-soluble vitamins.

How many capsules are you taking?

It would be hard to put everything your body needs daily into one capsule. The number of capsules needed daily for a single dose is a good indication of the quality of nutrients. One capsule cannot contain all a “best multivitamin” should contain.

Why should you even look for the best multivitamins?

We run across those that say, “I get all my vitamins from food”. This could be true 50 years ago, perhaps. But now, because of our poor soils, foods don’t have the vitamins and minerals that they had 40 or 50 years ago.

In the studies of 50,000 people, not one person was getting the RDA of the 10 essential vitamins, with the RDA being a minimum requirement.

Look into companies you trust for the quality of manufacturing, reputation, and a fair price for what you get. Call and ask questions and read labels. Check to make sure you are not doubling up on supplements by taking extra. And, do your best to eat whole foods that contain thousands of phytonutrients that companies cannot bottle, instead of using supplements.

So, what do you think, was it useful for you? Let us know if you have your own opinion about vitamin supplements and multivitamins below.

Can Vitamin C Prevent Flu?

Vitamin C is a natural antioxidant and immune system booster. It’s not expensive. It’s safe for everyone. And children can chew it. Thus, vitamin C is vital for your immune system, cardiovascular health, and skin. A diet rich in vitamin C and minerals can prevent the common cold and is essential for overall health and wellbeing.

Forms of Vitamin C

Ascorbic acid is generally the form of vitamin C that is most commonly found as an inexpensive supplement: natural (L-ascorbic acid) and synthetic forms. The acid can be tough on your stomach and your teeth, so look into other forms other than chewable, and when you take it. All that acid can be good for kidney stones, though!

The FDA requirement is only 70 mg and is meaningless unless you need to know at what point you can get scurvy. Plan on taking more. We would guess somewhere around 2000 mg or so would do the trick. Do your research.

Ascorbic Palmitate is the form of vitamin C most used in skincare. Look for skincare that contains various forms of vitamin C that support collagen synthesis and are more shelf-stable than L-ascorbic acid.

Linus Pauling’s Vitamin C Studies

Linus Pauling, the greatest ever American scientist, claimed that high doses of vitamin C (also known as L-ascorbic acid) can cure many diseases, including heart disease, cancer, and infections. He won two undivided Nobel Prizes: the first one for chemistry (1954) and the second – for peace (1962).

In fact, humans lost their ability to synthesize vitamin C in their bodies since the gene for its production has mutated and is no longer functioning. This discovery was first published in his article “Sickle Cell Anemia, a Molecular Disease” (1949). He explained his studies and discoveries in his books “Vitamin C and the Common Cold” (1970), “Vitamin C and Cancer” (1979), and “How to Live Longer and Feel Better” (1986).

Pauling believed that modern meat-based diets caused vitamin C deficiency and widespread illnesses and the flu, in particular. In his books, he recommended a vitamin C intake of 2,300mg per day or more for “optimum” health.

Why is Vitamin C Effective Against the Flu?

Almost everyone is exposed to the flu virus… somewhere, sometimes, during the season. How your body is prepared to handle exposure to the virus is the question. Do you eat well? Do you get adequate sleep? Do you exercise? Do you have good hygiene? And the clincher: how do you handle stress?

Vitamin C provides extra protection for your immune system as it’s required for the growth and development of normal cells that are involved in the immune response. So, If you answered “yes” to the above questions (and you’re truthful), the odds are that you are well protected from catching a flu virus of any type.

A recent study found that intravenous high-dose vitamin C is beneficial for treating patients and suppressed cytokine storms caused by COVID-19.

What else Is Vitamin C Good for?

Vitamin C is actually a very important nutrient for body functions. Besides building immunity, it’s a powerful antioxidant. Preventing cell damage, strengthening cells and tissue, supporting collagen in the body: all good reasons for making sure vitamin C is in your body and your skincare!

In addition, natural products containing vitamin C are rich in whole-food blends of vitamins, as well as antioxidants, and phytonutrients.

The Bottom Line

Along with vitamin C, zinc is critical for normal immune function and can reduce the symptoms of the common cold. Have a daily 8-11 mg of zinc with a diet such as seafood, meat, and beans.

Stay healthy by having a daily intake of recommended 400 mg of vitamin C with your diet. It is rich in fruits (cherries, blackcurrants, strawberries, lemons, and oranges), and vegetables (chili peppers, sweet peppers, kale, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, etc.).

Why Should You Start Journaling Your Thoughts

Journaling

Regular writing can help you learn how to communicate and process complex ideas effectively. More than remembering many occasions, you can also write your experiences and this can help you process them because going back to it can show you just how you solved your problems then and provide you with useful bits of information you never realized you were capable of doing.

This is becoming a lost art because people are now saving most of their documents on their phones. But some of the most influential people have been people who wrote their thoughts in a journal. Those journals became permanent records of their thoughts which eventually were useful when they wanted to publish them as books. Here are some of the ways a journal can be useful to you over the long run.

Remembering Good Things

One of the more useful benefits of keeping a journal is the fact that you can come back to it a year after and remember that you were in that position and were undergoing those emotions and experiences a year ago.

In a way, you will be amazed at how you matured for one year, and this can be very encouraging, especially when you are at your lowest point at that moment. If you’re unsure of how to create a journaling habit, here are some helpful tips.

It is Healthy

Writing can also do wonders for your health. Journaling can promote your mental health and overall wellbeing. It helps to improve awareness about depression or anxiety, process emotions, and complex thoughts in a healthy way.

Journal keeping can also provide people with traumatic or stressful experiences in their lives to work on how to heal themselves. The key here is not so much what happened then, but also focus on what you were actually thinking and feeling as opposed to what emotions flooded your being at that time.

Plus, writing is an effective way to create a healthy eating plan and lose weight faster. By writing down everything you eat, you raise awareness of your eating habits.

A Pat on the Back

Another advantage of keeping a journal is the cathartic release that comes with consistent and regular writing. This is the reason why some people who have started writing their diary early in life, become matured early in life too.

The reason seems to be that when they pour out their emotions on paper, they are able to heal themselves as time elapses and as they look at what they have written after some time has elapsed. They are able to pat themselves on the back as they read the account of how they were able to pass through that difficult challenge in their life.

Set Your Goals

As you write the goals you’ve set which took a long time to materialize, you will have that time to analyze what went wrong and how else to redeem yourself from it. Having your goals on paper has a different effect than just thinking about them because you can reinforce those ideas and act on them once you see that you missed out on something.

Your Legacy

The journal can also be a good legacy to one’s children because it contains your thoughts, goals in life, hurdles in life, and a thousand other thoughts that your children can go back in time and recall specific incidents and how you saw it through at the end of the day. Your children can also get to know something about your character that they have not known until that day when they get hold of your journal.

So what do you think about journaling? Have you experienced the positive effects of journaling on your mental health and wellbeing? If you have any questions, write them below and I will be happy to help you.

Eat Right and Start Losing Weight

Healthy diet

Do not ban any foods from your weight loss plan, especially the ones you like. Banning foods will only make you crave them more.

A lot of women today are starving themselves to be more like Barbie. Let’s face it, we are living in a world with the standards “Thin is in”. Several blogs and studies already showed and stated that starving yourself to lose weight is bad and unhealthy, but why do women still choose to do it?

The unwillingness to learn the proper way of eating and the laziness that comes with ignoring the presence of food rather than preparing healthy meals for the day contributes a lot to bad eating habits. Do not starve yourself. Learn how to eat right and start losing weight.

Set a Target Weight

You gained an extra few pounds over the holiday, and you want to get rid of that acquired fat by instantly starving yourself before the summer. At one point you must stop at a certain weight right? Set a target weight and focus on that. Do not go below your ideal weight, it is unhealthy and bad for you. In this part, it is better to consult a professional trainer or a dietitian on which food is best for you.

Research on Healthy and Easy to Make Meals

If you can’t afford to get a professional trainer or dietitian for you, do your own research. Research on meals and snacks you can prepare in under 5-10 minutes. Usually, these are meals with high fiber content and low-carb diets. We know this takes time, but believe us, this is better than starving yourself.

Plan Ahead

So you have a target weight, you’ve done your research. It’s time to plan ahead. Make a weekly and daily meal plan showing the meals you are to prepare for the day. This part is exciting. Introduce new meals and make variations, so it won’t be a boring week for you. There are several websites where you may download weekly meal plans, but we suggest you personalize it based on what’s available and easy for you to do.

Practice Snacking

Yes! You heard it right. Snacking or nibbling all throughout the day is good for you. Snacking increases your metabolism. Just be sure not to snack on large amounts. Snacking even when you don’t feel hungry allows your body not to feel the need for large food quantities, which is a result of overeating. Be sure to choose the snacks you’ll eat for the day. This includes slices of fruits, vegetable sticks, or anything natural.

Write What You Bite

Journaling can help you raise awareness of your eating habits. Studies show that taking notes of everything you eat helps you lose weight faster. Buy a journal, track it online, or download phone applications that help you track the food you take. Be detailed in your notes and list your experiences with the certain kinds of food you take. Writing what you bite is also an effective way to also discover what eating plans work best for you.

Relaxation Techniques for Wellbeing

relaxation therapy

Since ancient times people have known about the healing properties of water this is why water was considered sacred by ancient people. The Egyptians, Greek, and Romans used seawater for healing, wellbeing, and beauty treatments. The Latin saying “Mens Sana in corpore Sano”, a healthy mind in a healthy body, underlines the importance of psychological health in order to feel good, for wellbeing.

Thalassotherapy treatment

Thalassotherapy is translated from Greek as “sea treatment”. It’s an ancient healing treatment dating back 5,000 years. Thalassotherapy is used as a balancing treatment that benefits the connection between mind and body and is focused on wellbeing and relaxation.

To be specific, thalasso spa treatments include sea salt scrubs, seawater baths, sand and mud treatments, underwater massages, and more. Besides, thalassotherapy using mineral-rich seawater helps to tone muscles, improve skin conditions. It is considered the best remedy to mineralize and detoxify the body.

How Does it Work?

Thalassotherapy takes into consideration the principle of similarities between marine water and human blood plasma, in terms of minerals, vitamins, and trace mineral elements.

This is why the body absorbs the vitamins and minerals through the skin pores quickly and effectively to re-establish the balance of the organism when it is in contact with seawater.

Benefits of Thalassotherapy

So, thalassotherapy offers an effective and natural way to increase blood circulation and thereby reduce inflammation by moving toxins out quickly into the lymphatic system. In Europe, doctors prescribe thalassotherapy for different kinds of fatigue, arthritis, pain, and other illnesses for cleaning, detoxifying, and pain relief.

Therefore, thalassotherapy is used to treat some symptoms of asthma, bronchitis, and other respiratory problems. Other benefits include treatment of digestive, cardiovascular, and nervous systems, headaches and migraines, and bones, joint and back pains as well as chronic conditions including allergy, arthritis, psoriasis, and eczema. In addition, thalassotherapy helps to achieve revitalization that includes energy renewal, and the treatment of chronic stress and insomnia.

Types of Thalassotherapy

There are different types of Thalassotherapy: algotherapy, hydrotherapy, and physiotherapy.

Algotherapy

Usually, algae such as kelp and fucus are used for this treatment. They contain biologically active substances that cleanse the skin from toxins, improve metabolism, reduce puffiness, smooth wrinkles, increase skin moisture, and increase its elasticity.

There are different algae types: brown, green, red, and blue which contain different vitamins, minerals, and active ingredients. Therefore, they have antioxidant, antibacterial, and revitalizing,  as well as energizing, balancing, firming, and other properties.

Algae contain many components that help get rid of orange peel, improve blood and lymph circulation, and prevent stretch marks on the skin. Therefore, if you want to get rid of cellulite or lose weight, be sure to include this procedure in your beauty program. Moreover, algae face masks help to quickly tone tired or dehydrated skin.

Hydrotherapy

Natural shower products containing plant extracts and oils, grains of sea salt, or loofah. Sea salt is an excellent ingredient for a spa bath. Salt baths strengthen the immune system, relieve stress, make the skin more elastic and saturate it with potassium and other micro and macro elements.

For instance, the healthiest salt contains no dyes, and if you have sensitive skin, try to use unflavored salt. The water temperature should not be higher than 35-37 degrees, and the duration of the bath should be 12-15 minutes, otherwise, you will feel tired. By the way, to get a better effect, do not shower after a bath with salt, pat your body with a towel and apply cream if necessary.

Physiotherapy

This treatment includes water exercises and massages. So, these treatments are recommended for people who suffer from stress, burnout, cardiovascular problems, rheumatic pains, skin problems. In addition, it also helps for muscle toning and firming, boosting the immune system, improving overall wellbeing.

Pelotherapy

Pelotherapy is a method of healing the body using therapeutic mud, clay, or sea mud, which are suitable for all skin types. The Dead Sea mud, which has a rich composition of nutrients, has a particularly strong effect

At home, you can use clay face masks. They saturate skin cells with useful micro and macro elements, smooth wrinkles, cleanse, and tighten pores. Besides, masks based on white gligi (kaolinate) are especially good for oily and problem skin, pink and blue clay are great for skin with the first signs of aging. Clay can also be added to a mask for oily hair, as it normalizes the sebaceous glands.

Marine Climotherapy

Marine climotherapy is a treatment that uses the properties of the marine climate, rich in iodine and action which combines it with seawater, minerals, and sun. Ultimately, it has a beneficial effect both on the respiratory system and on the skin.

Thalassotherapy at Home

The most famous thalassotherapy centers are located at sea resorts with a pristine environment in France, Great Britain, Greece, Spain, the Dead Sea, and other places. According to recent research, an 8-day stay at a thalassotherapy center restores the balance of the body for the next 6 months.

However, if you cannot travel to the sea resort twice a year, there is an option of getting yourself to thalassotherapy at home. The Spa experience can now be created in the comfort of your own home just by adding sea salt to your hot bath combined with salt scrubs, and essential oils for aromatherapy.

You can add dried seaweed which is rich in vitamins, minerals, iodine, and other trace minerals. Besides, supplements from the blue-green algae Chlorella are an excellent source of vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids, and iron.

How to Boost the Immune System Naturally

immunity

Our immune system helps us to cope with any disease and maintain health for many years! All life, from birth to old age, a person is under the invisible care of nature itself. Its healing power is so great that in the old days, even in the absence of any kind of medicine, people could recover miraculously from the most serious ailments – and there was nothing supernatural in this!

Today we know perfectly well that the state of our health depends on immunity. The stronger it is, the less reason we have to go to doctors.

How the Body Fights?

Our body is designed in such a way that it does not tolerate anything genetically foreign. But if uninvited “aliens” nevertheless appear, they immediately fall into the field of vision of cells responsible for immunity. The main ones are white blood cells – lymphocytes. T-lymphocytes organize cellular defense: they track pathogenic microbes that enter the body and their own mutant cells that are formed in it and then destroy them.

B-lymphocytes fight against strangers, attacking them with antibodies that bind to foreign cells and block their life support system. For each “outsider” their own antibodies are produced, and this property is used in medicine for the diagnosis and prognosis of many diseases. B-lymphocytes have good immunological memory, which is the basis for the protective effect of vaccines.

the source of happiness

Playing against “Your own Cells”

Paradoxically, sometimes the immune system does not protect us from diseases but initiates them. We are talking about autoimmune diseases when the body perceives “its own” cells as “an alien”. The joints, muscles, thyroid gland, kidneys, and liver are the most commonly affected by autoimmune attacks.

An example of an inappropriate body reaction is immune infertility when a woman’s egg is recognized by her immune system as a foreign body. An immune conflict without an appropriate treatment will inevitably lead to serious health problems.

Alarm Signals

The state of the human immune system is largely determined by heredity. But there are also external factors that can negatively affect the body’s resistance. These include pollution, bad habits, inappropriate antibiotic treatment, frequent sunbathing, etc. We advise you to consider the state of your immune system if:

– you eat little vegetables and fruits, you abuse fatty and carbohydrate foods, you tend to overeat;

– drink more than 2 bottles of beer a day, smoke more than 5 cigarettes;

– have a sedentary job, prefer to use a car, do not like active rest;

– you have a lot of colds, cold sores appear on your lips more than 4 times a year, and you get sick with every seasonal flu;

– you are often annoyed and worried about little things, get depressed, chronically do not get enough sleep.

active lifestyle

Enjoying Life

The emotional factor should never be ignored. Scientists have noticed that people who are depressed often suffer from reduced immunity. This is due to the fact that the immune cells need a substance that is the “hormone of happiness” to perform their functions.

Therefore, try to get more pleasure out of life. Remember that a good mood and optimism in life have a positive effect on immunity. In addition, regular good sleep, walking in the fresh air, and, finally, healthy relationships naturally strengthen the body’s defenses.

fitness and health books

Traditional Medicine

Recently, many people have begun to actively use drugs that stimulate the immune system. Such self-medication is not safe, even when it comes to natural products. On the contrary, traditional medications, many of which have been used for centuries to increase resistance to disease, are safe and effective on the immune system.

When it is time for colds, and most importantly the flu, we advise you to use traditional medicine:

  • adaptogenic plants (lemongrass, Eleutherococcus, gold root);
  • plants producing essential oils (sage, eucalyptus);
  • spices (vanilla, cloves, ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, black pepper);
  • phytoncides producing plants (onions, horseradish, garlic);
  • honey and beekeeping products (propolis, pollen, bee bread, royal jelly);
  • vegetables, fruits, and berries containing many vitamins and microelements necessary for the cells of the immune system (radishes, grapes, pomegranates, viburnum, gooseberries, sea buckthorn, currants, rose hips).

spices

Vitamin C is essential for fighting the common cold. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant and is required for immune cell growth and development.

Firstly, prepare yourself a herbal collection that consists of 4 parts of fireweed leaves, 1 part of leaves of St. John’s wort, calendula, oregano, mint, cinquefoil. Then grind the mixture and infuse 1 teaspoon in 0.5 liters of boiling water. Drink this infusion regularly and you will no longer be bothered by a cough or a runny nose.

Finally, you have immunity-boosting in your hands by leading a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Other important things you can do are mindfulness, meditation, yoga, positive thinking, and lifelong self-development.

In Memory of My Mother

Keto diet

The transition from this world to other worlds is still a mystery…

In this article, I describe my amazing mystical experience of contact with the soul of my mother before she left this physical world.

The day before my mother passed away, I was sitting in front of my laptop. I felt sad because I haven’t seen my mother for three days after my last visit. She broke her leg and could not walk. This was the second time she broke her leg a year after the first. She did not speak and was sleeping most of the time. She almost stopped eating. I tried to feed her, but she could not swallow the soup I made for her.

I felt sad and helpless the last time I visited her. I shouted “Mama” in her ear and she answered “mmm” without opening her eyes. I repeated “Mama” again and she answered “mmm” again. She could hear me but could not open her eyes and speak. My brother said that her condition was similar to that before a coma.

When I was leaving, I kissed her forehead.  I said goodbye to her, as I felt that saw her for the last time. It was a strange feeling…

Farewell of my Mother

That evening I was sitting alone in front of my laptop. Gradually, I felt a light sweet scent that enveloped me from all sides. I couldn’t understand where the smell was coming from. Somehow, I felt my mother’s presence next to me. I started talking to her, asking for forgiveness for the pain I might have caused her.

The next morning I was told that my dear mother had passed away. I didn’t feel anything. Like a robot, I got dressed and went to my brother’s house. The house was filled with people, mostly my mater’s relatives who had come from the north. I entered my mother’s room and felt a sweet scent enveloping the room. I recognized this smell, it was the same smell that I had felt the day before at home.

Later I realized that my mother came to me that evening to say goodbye. Yes, it was so much like her. She did it because she loved and cared for me so much. She didn’t tell me this, but I felt it without words.

All I wanted at that moment and in the following days was to be alone with my grief and with the thoughts of my mother.

Farewell, my love

Forty Days Later

It was about the fortieth day after my mother passed away. It was late evening when I heard a strange sound outside. It was a plaintive cry similar to a kitten’s meow. I came over the window to look outside, but it was already too dark. The sound was coming from the branches of a nearby tree. I figured it might be a bat (I never hear it’s sound), because the birds should have been asleep at this late hour.

Suddenly I saw on the branches of a tree a creature that looked like a bat or a bird, which was making this strange sound. Several times she flew up to the window, near which I stood, flapping white wings, which I could see well in the dark, and screamed piteously. Then I thought it was a bird. I thought she had a nest on a tree branch and she tried to scare away our cat, which was sitting on the windowsill.

Then my inner voice told me that my mother’s soul had come to say goodbye to me. I spoke to her from the window. “My beloved mother. We are fine. Please don’t worry about us. I miss you”. The bird flew up to our window several times and screamed for some time. I stood by the window and talked to my mother. I told my son, who was sitting next to me, about this, but he did not believe it.

I have never seen this mysterious bird with its plaintive cry again…

The more I think about it, the more I believe that my mother’s soul in the form of a bird or bat flew to me to say the farewell words of mother’s love before her eternal journey into other dimensions.

In memory of my Mother

The Source of Happiness – Real Happiness is Within

meditation

“There is no happiness at all in any of the objects of the world. There is not an iota of happiness in objects, because they are insentient. Even the sensual pleasure is a reflection of the Atmic bliss only. It is sheer ignorance to think that we derive any pleasure from the sense-objects or from the mind.

Real happiness is within you. It is in the Atman. It is subjective. It manifests when the mind is concentrated. When the Indriyas are withdrawn from the objects outside when the mind is one-pointed when there are Vasana-kshya and Manonasa when you become desireless and thoughtless, Atmic bliss begins to dawn, spiritual Ananda begins to thrill”.

– Shri Swami Sivananda

What is Happiness?

After reading the definition of happiness by Sri Swami Sivananda, I decided to invite Lisa, a teacher of Transcendental Meditation (TM), to explain how ancient Vedic spiritual knowledge explains Happiness.

Lisa: “I read your quote from Sri Shwama Sivananda about Happiness and would like to say that, of course, there is no happiness in the objects themselves. However, we are happy if these objects can satisfy our needs, such as the need for beauty or comfort, and we can enjoy them. It is natural to have a desire to be happy by any means, because this is how nature created people: to strive for more and more happiness, love, strength, energy, wealth, etc. Unfortunately, we can feel happiness temporarily, because this state of mind can be disturbed by any negative events. We can lose all the objects that we like.

Vedic spiritual knowledge says that we should focus our minds on the source of happiness, which allows us to always be happy. The source of all happiness and energy is the Unified Field; in Vedic literature, it has many other names. The Unified Field Theory was recently developed by modern physics. We cannot experience existence in this Field through intellectual practice, books, or discussions. The only way to gain spiritual knowledge is through other people who are highly spiritually developed, and through training (techniques).”

Transcendental Meditation

Lisa: “In Vedic knowledge, most Teachers (Gurus) lived in ashrams in the Himalayas, and they used meditation to develop their Consciousness. I personally use TM (the Transcendental Meditation) as a TM Teacher. This technique is very easy to master and perform, and it does not require a concentration of the mind. Some other methods use concentration, but it is very difficult to do and not so effective.

meditation

There were many spiritual societies that spread their spiritual knowledge and used many different techniques. For example, Sufi societies used art, mainly dancing and storytelling, as well as hypnosis. Remember the tales of dervishes — strange people wandering from one place to another in poor clothes and telling funny stories. They were talking about spiritual knowledge in a secret form that ordinary people could not understand.

Only a devoted Sufi could understand another Sufi. All medieval poets were Sufis in this region. Not many people know that the philosopher, scientist, and poet of the 11th century Omar Khayyam was not a drinker or a womanizer. When he wrote poems full of deep philosophical thoughts in an allegorical way about wine, love, friendship, the meaning of life, he shared his spiritual knowledge. I recommend you to read the books of Omar Khayyam. I am sure you will enjoy them. I think that love of art is much more beneficial for your spirituality than any other philosophy.

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi believed that in a single brushstroke of an artist there is more Pure Consciousness (in modern terms of the Unified Field) than in the books of many scientists. He meant that through art we can achieve this Field faster than through intellectual thinking. I would like to recommend his book, “The Art of Life and Being,” because it contains very practical and gentle advice for everyone. ”

happiness is within

However, we are taught that intellectual knowledge is the main source of success in our society. Not surprisingly, some consider intellectual knowledge to be the highest and more advanced way to achieve Pure Consciousness.

Is there a contradiction between the mind and the senses? I personally believe that a connection with a spiritually developed person, a Teacher, can give a great advantage in learning spiritual knowledge. Can we consider the person with whom we feel a spiritual connection, a potential Teacher?

Read next: Relaxation Techniques for Wellbeing

Spiritual Teacher

Lisa: “Regarding your first question: there is no contradiction since the mind and the senses play their own role in spiritual development. It is the senses that allow us to enjoy art and beauty and can lead to Pure Consciousness. The deepest level of intellectual satisfaction can do this as well. But regular training through meditation is considered very important, allowing us to touch this level on a regular basis and install the mind at that level forever. This means that we can achieve Cosmic Consciousness so that it will never be disturbed.

There is the greatest way to achieve Pure Consciousness: through another highly spiritually developed person. It can be a Guru whom you respect and trust, or your parent or friend. We cannot know the level of spirituality of other people, as there are no signs to determine this.”

Role of Family

Lisa: “But if you feel connected with a person, it is much easier to learn from that person, because love and friendship create energy flows from one person to another. For this reason, the Vedic tradition says that living in a family is even better for development than living in an ashram alone. If the family creates a favorable environment for spiritual development, all members of the family can achieve a high level of spirituality.”

Thank you, Lisa, for sharing the Vedic knowledge of Happiness. Sri Swami Sivananda wrote hundreds of books on spirituality and yoga practices. His teachings inspired many people to practice yoga in order to achieve harmony and spiritual wisdom. The twenty spiritual instructions of Sri Swami Sivananda contain the essence of his teachings, which contribute to the development of harmony of the body, mind, and spirit of man.

“Expansion of happiness is the purpose of creation and we are all here to enjoy and radiate happiness everywhere.”

Ketogenic Diet – How Does it Work?

Keto diet

A ketogenic diet is an extremely low carbohydrate diet that allows you to consume protein moderately and consume more fat. Currently known as “keto”, there is the most ideal approach in these areas, allowing your body to switch from burning sugar (carbohydrates) to burning fat.

Fat burning is your main fuel, which allows people to feel much better, think clearer, and completely change serious health conditions. In practice, you get the opportunity to eat real food in the form of natural fats and proteins (meat, fish, poultry), while carbohydrates (sugars and starches) are limited. In this blog, I will talk about how the diet works, how it can improve your well-being, and share the intricacies of the best use of the keto diet.

Keto Diet is a Therapeutic Diet

A ketogenic diet was originally developed as a therapeutic tool for patients with refractory epilepsy and has since been used as a complementary treatment in many health conditions.

For almost 100 years, it has been used to treat drug-resistant epilepsy, especially in children. It is clinically proven that this diet helps to treat other chronic diseases, including cancer, depression, anxiety, epilepsy, obesity, Parkinson’s disease, and Alzheimer’s disease.

Dr. Atkins’ very low-carb diet for weight loss became popular in the 1970s, which began with a very strict two-week ketogenic phase. Other diets have used a similar approach to lose weight.

However, the ketogenic diet is not just a regular diet but is a powerful metabolic tool for treating a wide range of diseases.

How Does Ketogenic Diet Work?

When you eat carbohydrates (sugar and starch), your digestive system secretes sugar (glucose), which is formed in the bloodstream. Higher carbohydrate intake leads to an increase in blood sugar and insulin, a hormone in the pancreas that regulates blood sugar. If you instead consume mainly fats and proteins and strictly limit your intake of carbohydrates, over time your cells will switch metabolic pathways and burn stored and dietary fat as their main source of energy instead of sugar.

As more fat is burned, part of it turns into ketone bodies. Low carbohydrate intake will lead to a drop in blood glucose and insulin levels and an increase in ketone levels, as the fat is removed from the store and broken down. Your muscles (skeleton and heart) will use fats to nourish themselves, while your brain absorbs ketones. The result is more energy, clarity of mind, and health. Ketones are useful in many ways, and “nutritional ketosis” (where blood sugar is low and ketones are moderate) has a powerful effect on your metabolism.

There is strong evidence that these metabolically affecting diets can be used to treat the following diseases:

Cancer:  Metabolic Therapy

Current research on metabolic cancer treatments using the keto diet continues to grow. The keto or treatment of metabolic cancer is somewhat different from the treatment of other diseases. It is discussed in detail in the book “Anyway You Can: Doctor Bosworth Shares Her Mom’s Cancer Journey: A Beginners Guide to Ketones For Life”  which is based on studies of metabolic therapy.

Ketogenic diets for cancer are being studied nationally. Being in nutrient ketosis affects cancer by starving individual cancer cells of sugar and other types of fuel that they need to survive. In addition, staying in ketosis provides support and protection for normal energy processes in healthy cells. The advantage of this treatment protocol is that it is not toxic to the body, and in the “wait and see” cases it can provide the patient with great health benefits.

Diabetes in All Forms

Type 2 diabetes

Although the current guidelines for diabetes mellitus treatment regarding the consumption of 45-65% of carbohydrate calories are starting to change, many practitioners still give old advice. The simple fact is that carbohydrate intake causes an increase in blood sugar. As blood sugar rises, more medication and insulin are needed to lower it.

Chronic high blood sugar also leads to tragic and in many cases unnecessary health complications. In contrast, a ketogenic diet reduces and in many cases eliminates the need for diabetic medication and reduces the number of units of insulin needed to regulate blood sugar.

Type 1 Diabetes

Reducing carbohydrate intake and increasing fat intake are also beneficial for people with type 1 diabetes, type 1.5, and LADA. A low-carb diet can help reduce the number and severity of hypoglycemic episodes, lower the results of an HbA1c test, and minimize future complications of diabetes.

Ketogenic Diets Can Improve Other Health Issues

In addition, there is a lot of scientific evidence that the following conditions can also be changed or significantly improved with a keto diet:

  • Insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, and prediabetes: these conditions are directly related to the effects of chronically high blood sugar and insulin, leading to insulin resistance (IR). In addition, related conditions, such as liver obesity and PCOS, are also caused by IR. Low-carb and high-fat diets have been used in studies to treat and eliminate all of these IR conditions.
  • Heart disease: Cardiac risk factors improve when blood sugar and insulin levels decrease as a result of dietary changes. HDL cholesterol rises on a low-carb, high-fat diet, and triglycerides drop sharply. I also discuss what causes heart disease, and not the intake of cholesterol or saturated fats.
  • Autism: A new study shows that keto diets are helpful in treating autism.
  • Neurological disorders include ALS, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease: studies show that ketone bodies have a protective effect on the nervous system and slow down the development of diseases associated with the nervous system.
  • Mitochondrial myopathy: Keto diets provide mitochondrial support and can improve metabolic energy disorders such as pyruvate dehydrogenase complex deficiency (PDHC), type 1 glucose transporter deficiency (GLUT1), glycogen storage diseases such as Macardle’s disease, and a number of mitochondrial myopathies.
  • Aging: a ketogenic diet reduces inflammation by suppressing free radical activity and suppressing some inflammatory markers. The end result is a slower development of the human aging process.

Regarding weight loss, the keto diet has one of the biggest benefits that ketones and ketogenic diets helped manage hunger.

The Negative Effects of a Ketogenic Diet

However, like any diet protocol, there are also some cons, from mild side effects to safety concerns. Even though the keto diet has promising therapeutic potential in many health conditions, there are certain subgroups where caution needs to be exercised.

Research has shown that very low-carb diets can lower thyroid hormone levels, specifically T3, the most metabolically active form of thyroid hormone in the body.

The bottom line is that the ketogenic diet is a powerful metabolic tool for treating a wide range of diseases. However, this is not a regular diet, and if applied correctly, it adjusts metabolic functions at the cellular level.
